Mena Mesiha, MD
Dr. Mena Mesiha is a Board-certified orthopedic surgeon trained in general orthopedics, with specialized fellowship training in problems affecting the shoulder.
Dr. Mesiha is a graduate of Cornell University and received his Doctorate in Medicine from SUNY Downstate Medical Center. He completed his Orthopedic Residency at the Cleveland Clinic, followed by additional training in the Harvard Shoulder Fellowship at the MGH and Brigham and Women’s Hospitals. Dr. Mesiha is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. In addition, he is a Candidate Member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS) and is a member of the New England Shoulder and Elbow Society (NESES) and the Massachusetts Medical Society.
During his residency, Dr. Mesiha studied the biomechanics of rotator cuff tears and the biology of rotator cuff healing. He uses this knowledge of the science of rotator cuff disease to help him counsel patients on when it is appropriate to avoid surgery and to maximize their benefits from surgery when it is necessary. He has also studied the importance of component positioning in shoulder replacement surgery and is currently using state-of-the-art 3-D printing technology to plan his shoulder replacement procedures.
Dr. Mesiha has authored over a dozen academic papers in the orthopedic literature and has given numerous presentations to his peers at local and national orthopedic meetings. He currently serves as a reviewer for the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery and the Journal of Clinical Biomechanics. Dr. Mesiha was a member of Coastal Orthopaedics in Fall River before joining Prima CARE.
Dr. Mesiha sees general orthopedic and shoulder patients at his Prima CARE office in the Durfee-Union Mills Complex on Pleasant Street in Fall River.
