Position: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - Gastroenterology

Job Description:
The position will be responsible for triaging patients mainly over the telephone, refilling prescriptions electronically, reviewing lab work and diagnostic testing ordered by Gastroenterology physicians and Nurse Practitioners. Responding to patients’ telephone calls with questions and concerns regarding their GI health. The plans might involve lifestyle modifications including nutrition, exercise regimens and other health factors.
Essential Job Functions:
- Triage patient telephone calls
- Assess a wide range of GI patients
- Provide care for patients with Gastrointestinal diseases of stomach, esophagus or bowel
- Refill prescriptions electronically, perform prior authorizations on medications as needed
- Review electronic test results i.e. lab work and diagnostic testing
- Educating patients about their conditions and explaining different treatment plans, options, risks and benefits
- Monitor patient conditions and report findings to physicians
- Interact with the patients as well as their families regarding treatment
- Interact with outside agencies regarding patient care
Minimum Requirements and Skills:
- Licensed by the Commonwealth of Mass as a Licensed Practical Nurse
- Understanding of confidentiality obligations and nursing best practices
- Ability to undertake a variety of diverse tasks and work with team of providers
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Nursing experience in a similar clinical environment.
- Demonstrated experience with basic Microsoft and EMR software.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize daily workload
